A Message from President Dr. DeCastro: Our Profession, Our Community

Charleston County Medical Society logo

This year, our profession has found itself in the spotlight, and not for the reasons we'd hope. The integrity of medicine has been questioned from all directions, and patients are losing their trust in us. While we can't control every headline or social media post, we can control how we treat one another and how we show up for our patients and our profession, starting right here in our own community.

When I joined this Society five years ago, I found something special: physicians who respected one another, supported one another, and genuinely cared about strengthening our profession. That spirit of collegiality and kindness is becoming increasingly rare, which makes it even more important to protect and nurture. By supporting one another, mentoring the next generation, and leading by example, we can help restore confidence in our profession and remind people of the values that brought us to medicine in the first place.

We are also seeking members to serve on our Board and help shape our future. If you'd like to become more involved, whether through advocacy, school health, service, mentorship, or networking (or have an idea for a new focus), or have any other messages for the President, please reach out to president@charlestonmedicalsociety.org. We hope you'll join us at our upcoming events focused on wellness and mentorship. Take a break, reconnect with colleagues, and strengthen the relationships that make our Society so special.

Justine DeCastro, M.D.
President, Charleston County Medical Society
