Justine DeCastro, MD

For Justine DeCastro, MD, medicine has always been about more than diagnoses and data. Inspired by summers spent watching her uncle make house calls in rural Georgia, she learned early that trust, listening, and genuine connection can heal in ways no chart ever could.

A Charleston native, raised near the old Naval Shipyard where her father served, Dr. DeCastro is proud to care for the same community that shaped her. She completed her undergraduate studies and medical degree at the University of South Carolina, then served as a Captain and General Medical Officer at Barksdale Air Force Base through a Health Professions Scholarship with the United States Air Force. She went on to complete her Family Medicine residency at MUSC and is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. DeCastro is the founder of Harborside Healthcare in Mt. Pleasant, a hybrid on-site and virtual primary care practice built on a simple, flat membership model — no insurance middlemen, just direct access to your physician. Her practice spans prevention, acute care, and chronic disease management, with a whole-person focus on mental, physical, and spiritual health. She also serves as Medical Director at Curana Health, caring for post-acute and long-term care patients, and as Supervising Physician for Whole Heart Family Medicine and the Kadima Center for Heart Attack and Stroke Prevention.

Now serving as President of the Charleston County Medical Society, Dr. DeCastro is a passionate advocate for restoring the human side of medicine — championing time for meaningful patient relationships, preventive care, and physician mentorship across the local medical community. She was named Best Primary Care Physician and Best Primary Care Practice by Mt. Pleasant Magazine in 2020, and is recognized as a Leader in Health and Medicine in the 2026 Women in Health edition of Healthlinks Magazine.
