Gerald Harmon, a family doctor with a long history of practice and physician advocacy in South Carolina, has been elected chairman of the American Medical Association.

Harmon is a member of the S.C. Medical Association and served on its board and as its president. He has practiced medicine in Georgetown County for more than three decades. He grew up in Newberry and also serves as a clinical professor of family medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina.
