“Professional Pursuits and the Making of Race: Medicalizing Blackness in the American Atlantic.”

Dr. Rana Hogarth focuses on the medical and scientific constructions of race during the era of slavery and beyond. She is the author of Medicalizing Blackness: Making Racial Difference in the Atlantic World (University of North Carolina Press, 2017). She received her PhD from Yale University and currently is an associate professor at the University of Illinois in the Department of History.
