Chuma Obineme

Dr. Chuma Obineme is a gastroenterologist who has made significant contributions to the medical community in education and in understanding the treatment of complex esophageal motility disorders. He embarked on his educational journey at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Psychology and further pursued his studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, earning his Doctor of Medicine. He completed both his Internal Medicine Residency and his Gastroenterology
Fellowship in Atlanta, GA. His gastroenterology fellowship was with the Department of Digestive Diseases at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. While being adept in all areas of general gastroenterology, he specializes in motility disorders of the esophagus and the anorectal area. Dr. Obineme is passionate about medical education, innovation, and quality improvement.

Dr. Obineme has spent the last two years with Palmetto Primary Care and Physicians within the gastroenterology team in Nexton. He worked as the director of motility for the practice, seeing patients with complex esophageal and anorectal dysfunction. He now plans to join the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Medical University of South Carolina in downtown Charleston, starting in July of 2025.

He enjoys podcasting, both listening to and creating his own. He is a die-hard Ravens fan, loves salsa dancing, trying new foods, and spending time with his wife and 15-month-old son.
